Walmart Grocery app sees record downloads after Coronavirus lockdown

Walmart is one of the biggest retailers in the US and it is the biggest when it comes to having a physical presence in the country and we have seen that people love to shop at the stores. However, it is known that the world is going through COVID-19 pandemic which means everyone is told to stay indoors as well as lockdown has been enabled in most parts of the world. Due to that reason, people can’t go out and buy things such as groceries or essential items since non-essential items are out of the question at this point.

For that, we know people have been shopping groceries on Walmart’s stores and even doing so with Amazon. But it is seen that Walmart’s Grocery app was not seeing a significant number of downloads meaning that the people were not taking advantage of the same. However, that has changed now as Walmart says they are seeing a record number of downloads for the Walmart Grocery app in recent days and it has everything to do with the Coronavirus pandemic that is forcing everyone to shop online.

App Annie’s report says that The Walmart Grocery application retained that No. 1 position for at least two days and adds that it grabbed the No. 1 ranking position across all Shopping apps in the U.S. on April 5, 2020, and surpassing Amazon by 20%. On the other hand, we are still seeing the Walmart Grocery app being number 1 on the Google Play Store where it is number 2 on the Apple App Store.

Interestingly, this leads us to the fact that Walmart was looking to discontinue its Grocery app but seeing this surge in interest, Walmart will have to think about its strategy once again. As per reports, Walmart was going to merge its Grocery section inside the main app prior to these reports.
