Green Etsy: First e-commerce company to offset 100% of shipping carbon emissions

Etsy sets a new milestone. The new milestone is of offsetting 100% of carbon emissions. The company has already achieved several milestones in its pursuit of sustainability. They already are on track with their 2016 goal of powering their operations with 100% renewable electricity by 2020.

Etsy has fulfilled its goal of generating zero waste two years ahead of schedule. Etsy has also given away thousands of dollars in solar panel discounts to their sellers.

However, 98% of Etsy’s emissions are generated solely through the packages shipped from their 2.1 million vendors. According to the company, the distance that e-commerce packages in the U.S travel roughly 130,000 trips every day to the moon and back.
Etsy will now automatically purchase carbon offsets for every product sold on their website. It will offset the total amount of greenhouse gases that are generated by their customers.
